Indian journalist Kallie Puri was honoured with “India’s Most Powerful Women in Media” award. She received the global honour at the prestigious Confluence Excellence Awards at the British Parliament on September 27, 2019. Kallie Puri is currently serving as the Vice-Chairperson of the India Today Group. She is a graduate in Politics, Philosophy & Economics from the Oxford University in England.
Forever 21 files for Bankruptcy, plans to close stores in Asia & Europe
Forever 21, US fast-fashion giant, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced that it will make its exit from most international locations in Asia and Europe. The move comes as traditional retailers continue to struggle against the rise in competition posed by online retailers. The US fashion retailer stated that it has obtained $275m in financing from the existing lenders and $75m in new capital to assist with the global restructuring.
Niti Aayog’s School Education Quality Index: Kerala tops, UP worst performer
Niti Aayog has released the 'School Education Quality Index' (SEQI) report. In this index, the quality of school education of 20 states has been ranked by number. In this list, Kerala is in the first place, Rajasthan second while Karnataka secured third place. NITI Aayog has prepared this index based on the data of 2016-17. The index emphasizes the efforts of schools to increase the learning ability of students. Punjab and Jammu Kashmir are at the 18th and 19th position in the list.
Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria takes over as new IAF chief
Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria has taken over as the 26th Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF), succeeding Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, who demitted office after his superannuation on September 30, 2019. RKS Bhadauria was appointed as the next chief of IAF by the Union Government on September 19, 2019. The Air Marshal was earlier heading IAF's Bengaluru-based Training Command.
Viju Khote, Sholay’s Kalia, passes away at 77
Viju Khote, Veteran Bollywood actor, has passed away on 30 September 2019. He was 77. He was suffering from multiple health issues for a long time. He took his breath at his home in Mumbai. Viju Khote was most famous for his roles in Sholay as 'Kalia' and in Andaz Apna Apna as 'Robert'. Viju Khote was also praised for his outstanding performance in several Marathi films. Viju Khote started his career in the year 1964.
