Chandrayaan 2 landing updates Vikram starts final descent, Its time to land on Moon

Chandrayaan 2 landing: Lander Vikram's contact has been lost when it was 2.1 km away from the Moon. According to the ISRO chief K Sivan, final descent of the Vikram was going well but when it was just 2.1 km away, it had lost all the contacts. However, scientists are still analysing the data.

Vikram was needed to decrease its speed from 21,000 km per hour to 500 to 900 km per hour. If lander Vikram could manage to make a soft landing on the lunar surface, India would have become the fourth country in the world to do so. It is also important to know that only 37% soft landings have been successful, however, ISRO was quite confident for its mission.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also reached Bengaluru to see the historic landing of Chandrayaan-2. PM Modi watched the Chandrayaan-2 landing at ISRO centre along with 60 students who have been selected from across the country on the basis of special space quiz competition. Since the entire world is looking at India, some students from Bhutan have also been invited to be a part of this historic moment. PM Modi tweeted, “The youngsters with whom I will watch the special moments from the ISRO Centre in Bengaluru are those bright minds who won the ISRO Space Quiz on MyGov. The large scale participation in this Quiz showcases the interest of the youth in science and space. This is a great sign!"

How soft-landing will take place?

According to the video released by ISRO, in the first 10 minutes of the last 15 minutes of landing, Chandrayaan-2 will be 7.7 kilometres away from the moon. After that, it will cover a distance of 5 km in the next 38 seconds. After this, in the next 89 seconds, his speed will be very slow and it will travel 400 meters. After this, in the next 66 seconds distance between Moon and Vikram will remain just 100 meters. Now, at the last 100 meters, the lander Vikram will take the final decision where to land on the Moon.

Chandrayaan-2 landing Live Telecast

Chandrayaan-2 landing on the Moon will be telecast live from 1.10 am on Doordarshan, webcast on ISRO website and streamed on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. If ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 successfully land on the Moon, it will make India first country in the world to land in the south pole of the Moon.

Scientists gear up for historic landing

The entire ISRO team, scientists behind the Chandrayaan-2 mission and ISRO Chairman K Sivan are excited and anxious. K Sivan earlier informed media that the last 15 minutes before Chandrayaan-2 landing on the moon will be the most terrifying moments for us. The landing of Vikram on the Moon will be the first landing operation for ISRO. Scientists believe that all eyes will be on the lander Vikram and rover Pragyan.
